Chapter Restricted Scholarships

Scholarship funds may be created for specific chapters, through gifts from graduate brothers, parents and undergraduates. Currently, the Foundation manages approximately 42 chapter restricted scholarship funds. Scholarship fund size varies from $10,000 to $450,000. How to create a scholarship fund for your chapter. Some Points to Consider:

1. To create a permanent fund (only income and appreciation are used for scholarship distributions) the minimum total fund size is $30,000. Gifts from several different sources may be combined for this total. The scholarship needs to be completely funded in at least three years.
2. Temporary scholarship funds may be created (using both principal and income for distributions.) This type of fund is typically created as a short term solution for scholarship needs.
3. Generally speaking an endowed scholarship fund will produce scholarship distributions of 4% of the fund value.
4. The fund can be named for the donor or his designee.
5. Specific scholarship selection criteria can be determined by the donor within accepted Foundation guidelines. You can be creative. Let’s talk about your wishes to see what is possible.
6. A chapter can have multiple scholarship funds.
7. Funds pay their own investment and administrative fees.

How to Create a Named Scholarship Fund Available to Any Chapter:

Scholarships can be created in the donor’s name or his designee for use by the Foundation in awarding scholarships to any qualifying brother. This type of scholarship helps to fulfill the Foundation’s mission to “change a life.”

Courageous Leader Scholarship

The Courageous Leader Scholarship is available for Phi Gamma Delta chapters to recognize outstanding student leaders who share Phi Gamma Delta’s values: Friendship, Knowledge, Service, Morality and Excellence. These values guide our daily lives as undergraduate men and beyond, and we can share and celebrate those values with deserving students.

National Capital Fijis Intern Scholarship

An Undergraduate Intern Scholarship is now available for this Summer’s Internship Semester (May, June, July, and August). One (1) $1,000.00 scholarship will be offered. In special instances, a second award may be considered by the Graduate Chapter. The selection of the intern scholarship recipient will be based on the values of Phi Gamma Delta: friendship, knowledge, service, morality and excellence as determined by a Graduate Chapter Committee. The scholarship grant is available to an undergraduate brother in good standing at an active Phi Gam chapter or provisional chapter at universities nationwide and must be independently selected for an internship in the National Capital Region.

Peale Scholarship Grant

Honoring Norman Vincent Peale (Ohio Wesleyan 1920)

One of Phi Gamma Delta’s most beloved and well-known brothers, Norman Vincent Peale (Ohio Wesleyan 1920), made a tremendous impact on the lives of many people and Phi Gams with his devotion to God and his service to mankind. To honor his contributions to the world over, the Foundation will be awarding scholarship grants for brothers choosing careers in the ministry.

Persistence Scholarship

The Persistence Scholarship is a very important new scholarship awarded by the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation. It recognizes the importance we have placed since our founding on a determination to “press on” – to accomplish important goals while overcoming obstacles.

The Persistence Scholarship of $2,500 provides financial assistance to brothers who strive for excellence in academics, fraternity, and campus leadership, as well as service to the chapter and community while dealing with the financial challenges of attending college. We believe these brothers are powerful catalysts for creating and sustaining successful chapters.

Speckman Journalism Scholarship

Honoring Gordon T. Speckman

The Gordon T. Speckman Journalism Scholarship is specifically available for Journalism majors, who must submit three writing samples that have been published since March of the previous year.

The scholarship is open to undergraduates (including seniors) who write by-lined general interest, editorial page, op-ed page columns or sports columns. Movie reviews and other specialized columns are not eligible.

Triple A Scholarship

Academic Achievement Award

The Foundation’s Triple A Scholarship is a $250 scholarship available to newly initiated members of Phi Gamma Delta who earn a 3.2 GPA during their first semester as a Phi Gam.

1. To qualify for the scholarship, you will still need to prove a GPA of 3.2 or higher and 12 credit hours.
2. Applicants must still be a fully initiated member of a Phi Gamma Delta chapter or provisional chapter.

Individual Requirements

• Applicant must be an initiated member of a Phi Gamma Delta chapter or provisional chapter.
• The GPA to qualify for Triple A is 3.2 on a 4.0 GPA scale during his pledging semester (see grade verification below).
• Applicant must complete a minimum 12 credit hours for the semester.
• Applicant must complete the online application for the Foundation’s the Academic Achievement Awards.

Chapter Requirements

• Chapter must have properly initiated the applicant.
• Chapter must have turned in all new member and initiation forms and fees to the International Fraternity.
• Chapters have four years from their charter date to receive Triple A. New provisional chapters and chapters can participate.
• Must be from the following provisional chapters/chapters.

Chapters & Provisional Chapters Currently Eligible for the Triple A Scholarship:

The year indicates the scholarship June 30 deadline for the chapter/provisional chapter.

• Until 2025: California Polytechnic, Memphis, Texas A&M Corpus Christi
• Until 2026: Cornell, George Washington
• Until 2027: Charleston, Maryland, Texas Tech
• Until 2028: Denver, Florida International, West Virginia

Grade Verification

While completing the online application, the applicant will need to attach and upload his official grade transcript from the school, which contains the applicant’s name, hours and GPA of the semester/quarter in which he pledged clearly printed on transcript. Any member accepting the Academic Achievement Award agrees to also accept emails and/or electronic communication from the Fraternity and Foundation while they are undergraduate members.

Deadline for Submitting

Any Triple A applicant has six months after his initiation date to submit his Triple A application. After six months has lapsed, the Triple A applicant forfeits the scholarship.

Deadline & Payment Dates:

• September 30 = October 15 payment
• January 15 = January 30 payment
• March 15 = March 30 payment
• June 15 = June 30 payment

Application

You must log-in to the Member Site to complete your application. After logging in, go to the My Account page, and take take note of your Constituent ID # (for chapters only) or System ID # (for provisional chapters only), because you need the # for the application. You will also need to provide your financial institution’s routing # and account # (these numbers are printed on your checks), because your scholarship will be directly deposited into your checking or saving account.

After starting the application, you will be asked for your “Organization Name.” Please enter your School Name, not your chapter name (e.g. Penn State).
