David Ratterman (1968) was inducted into the University of Kentucky’s (UK) Hall of Distinguished Alumni. David was recognized for building a global career in construction law, representing the structural steel industry from his offices in Louisville, Kentucky.

David’s remarkable career spans military service, construction law, international industry leadership and philanthropy. His work has influenced major projects around the world and helped create educational opportunities for hundreds of students through the David B. Ratterman Undergraduate Scholarship.

Yet when reflecting on his journey, David points to a different source of gratitude: Phi Gamma Delta.

As a young engineering student facing financial hardship, David remembers walking through snow and mud with a hole in his shoe, convinced he would leave school and return to construction work. What changed his mind?
“I couldn’t go back to the house and tell my Fraternity brothers that I was quitting. So I stuck it out.”

Today, decades later, David still gathers regularly with fellow Phi Gams and continues to experience the lifelong bond of brotherhood.
“It’s not just a motto: It’s Not For College Days Alone.”
